How to connect your Instagram

Three steps, about five minutes. You will never be asked for your Instagram password — Instagram asks you directly, and tells you exactly what you are approving.

Before you start: you need the Instagram account you want to post to, and the phone or browser you normally log into it with. You do not need a Facebook account, a Facebook Page, or a developer account. If someone told you otherwise, they were describing the old way.

Step 1

Make your Instagram a professional account

Instagram only allows apps to publish to professional accounts. It is free, it takes about thirty seconds, and your account looks exactly the same afterwards — same followers, same posts, same username.

  1. 1.Open the Instagram app on your phone.
  2. 2.Tap your profile picture, bottom right.
  3. 3.Tap the three lines at the top right, then Settings and privacy.
  4. 4.Scroll down and tap Account type and tools.
  5. 5.Tap Switch to professional account.
  6. 6.Pick a category — Digital creator is fine — and tap Done.
  7. 7.If it asks whether to connect a Facebook Page, tap Skip. You do not need one.

Your profile now says Professional dashboard when you open it. That is all you need.

Step 2

Press connect in InfluAI Labs

This is where you tell us which character the account belongs to. Each character connects its own accounts, so a post from one never lands on another's profile.

  1. 1.Sign in at influailabs.com.
  2. 2.Click characters in the top menu.
  3. 3.Click the character you want this Instagram account to belong to.
  4. 4.Click the ACCOUNTS tab, just under the character's name.
  5. 5.On the Instagram card, click the white connect button.

Instagram's own login page opens. You have left our site — that is correct and it is how it should work.

Step 3

Log in and approve

Instagram is asking, not us. Read what it lists — it will say we can see your basic profile and publish content. That is everything we ask for.

  1. 1.Log in with the Instagram account you want to use. If you are already logged in, it just shows your username.
  2. 2.Instagram shows a list of what the app can do. Tap Allow.
  3. 3.You are sent straight back to InfluAI Labs.

The Instagram card now shows your @username in green instead of “not connected”. You are done.

Now what?

Go to create, generate a photo, then open gallery. Hover any image and a post button appears. Write a caption — one is written for you already — and press post now. It appears on your Instagram within a few seconds.

If something goes wrong

It says “unauthorized user” or “invalid user”+

This means the account has not been given access yet. We are finishing Instagram's review process, and until it completes only accounts we have added by hand can connect. Email ken@influailabs.com with your Instagram username and we will add you the same day.

The connect button is grey and says “coming soon”+

That is on our side, not yours — the integration for that platform is not switched on yet. Nothing you can configure will change it. Instagram is live; TikTok and YouTube are next.

Instagram says my account is not eligible+

Almost always this means the account is still a personal account. Go back to step 1 and check that Settings shows a Professional dashboard. If you just switched it over, wait a minute and try again.

It asks me for a Facebook Page+

You are on the old connection route somewhere. Ours does not use Facebook at all — if you started from a different link or an old email, come back to influailabs.com, open your character, and press connect from the ACCOUNTS tab.

I connected the wrong account+

Press connect again and log in with the right one. The new account replaces the old connection for that character. Nothing is posted anywhere in the meantime.

Is my password safe?+

We never see it. Instagram handles the login on its own page and hands us a token that only allows what you approved. You can revoke it any time from Instagram: Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites.

Still stuck?

Email ken@influailabs.com with your Instagram username and what you see on screen. A real person reads it.
